Episode notes

Bitcoin is pushing back toward $84,000 — but today’s biggest story goes far beyond price.

NEAR Intents says more than $50 million in attempted transfers linked to the Bitget attacker reached its cross-chain infrastructure, yet only around $503,000 was actually frozen. That raises one of the biggest questions facing crypto: can a network remain permissionless while individual applications actively refuse stolen funds?

At the same time, Wall Street is moving even deeper into digital assets. The first U.S. spot NEAR ETF has begun trading with planned staking exposure, Coinbase has expanded its control over the derivatives stack with regulated clearing infrastructure, Citi is rolling tokenized bank deposits into additional markets, and Goldman Sachs is connecting a huge Treasury fund to institutional crypto rails.

The bigger theme running through today’s episode is control .

NEAR Intents can decide whether a swap is processed. Coinbase is bringing more of trading and settlement under one roof. Citi is creating digital money inside the banking system. Corporations are accumulating enormous amounts of ETH. Traditional financial institutions are connecting existing assets directly to crypto infrastructure.

For years the question was whether crypto would replace traditional finance.

Now the more interesting question may be whether the two are slowly becoming part of the same financial machine — and who ultimately controls the switches.
