Aggregate counts, not visitor profiles, remain the rule. Our own analytics record the UTC day, the page path and an aggregate view count. When browser storage is available, the site also creates a random token that lasts for one UTC day. The server keeps only a one-way digest of that token for up to 48 hours so repeat page views from the same browser are counted once in the Daily Unique Browsers total. The durable total is an aggregate browser count, not a count of identifiable people.
Our analytics do not store IP addresses, account IDs, referrers, user-agent profiles, browser fingerprints or analytics cookies. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals are honoured.
Hosting and security providers may process network information and set strictly necessary security cookies to deliver and protect the site. Those controls are separate from our aggregate readership count.
Control Audience Measurement
You can object to our aggregate statistical measurement at any time, free of charge. This setting applies only to this browser. We do not use the resulting counts to create reader profiles, personalise news or make decisions about individuals.

The homepage can remember saved story identifiers and your colour theme in local browser storage. That information remains on the device and browser where you made the choice. Clearing site data removes it.
The random daily analytics token also lives in local browser storage. It is replaced at the next UTC-day boundary. Clearing site data can cause that browser to be counted again during the same day.
External players load after you ask
Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, X, publishers and partner links are third-party services with their own privacy policies. Embedded Spotify and YouTube players are not loaded until you choose to play or load them. Following an external link takes you to that provider.
